Welcome to Hello Taxi from Markus Pohlmann.
Hello Taxi is a SpaceTaci-Clone, this should nearly explain everything.
You control a flying Taxi and carry passengers against the clock.
The faster your are the more money you get.
The gravity is really nasty because all the time you have to maneuver
against it and you have to avoid collisions with the walls.
Of course you can land on every flat surface (mostly landingplatforms)
if you get down slowly.
To lift off again you have to pull back the joystick so the taxi makes
a little jump upwards. While jumping that way you restart the engines
by pushing the joystick upward.
Pushing upwards of course makes the Taxi accelerated upwards and moving
to the left and right can be done by pushing the joystick in the
desired direction.
Fuel only is consumed when flying upward and if it is going to zero
the taxi will fall down.
To prevent this you can refuel on Platform 1. Landed there you can
change money into fuel by pressing fire.
Sounds easy?
Here are three problems, one randomly selected for each level:
1.Biplane : this biplane flies from left to right and back again and
if you collide with it you will crash.
2.Missiles: they fly from the bottom of the screen upwards and are as
deadly as the Biplane.
3.Meteors : heavy stones are falling down but they do not make you crash,
they push your taxi faster down than it would be good for the
taxi. You can still fly away before the ground comes closer..
If you crashed anywhere or collided with a missile or the Biplane and
you are having a passenger he will jump out of the taxi and takes a
certain amount of money with him depending on the difficultyfactor you
are playing.
If you crashed into a wall then you are responsible for buying a new taxi!
Again the price depends on the difficulty.
If a biplane or missile hit you or a meteor hits you and makes you crash
then the insurance (Funny, isn`t it?) pays the taxi but not the money
a passenger took away.
And now a big difference to most other SpaceTaxiClones:
---> There are no LIFES ! As long as you can afford a new taxi you will
get one, you even get a creditlimit of -1000 (But fuel can only be
bought when you have no credit.
When playing with two players the credits are added together so
if player one has -200 and player two has -800 the game will be over.
That means too that if one has -1300 and the other player has 301
the game still will continue!
Every level you have to fly 15 passengers to their platform (with 2
players you have to transport 30).
You will never run out of passengers but at one time there can only be
two passengers (with 2 players there are four passengers on screen at
maximum).
When the game starts you first select the difficultyfactor.
This factor only defines how much you have to pay when crashing your taxi.
Now you can select by mouse (or by stick if you selected two players)
a music (the format must be (Pro-)tracker) that will be played during the
level.
Sadly the playingroutines of AMOS are very old so some modules will have
timing problems or even sound very bad. If this happens click as fast as
possible at ERASE MODULE, otherwise the system could crash (please do not
ask why but it happened to me so I have thrown in this option!).
When playing with two players you have to operate the filerequester with
the keyboard or you have to put in the mouse again, select a module and
then reinsert the joystick in that port.
If you do not select a music or if you push `m` during the game you will
change to the samples. The passengers and taxidrivers will talk in this
case.
If you pushed `p` then the game stops and the screen fades dark. The game
now waits for you to push space to continue.
If all levels have been played (a special sample can be heared then) or
if the creditlimit is exceeded the game will be over.
The white screen displays the following things:
Mon.: Your money
Tgt.: Fly to this platform !
earn: The passenger will pay this when you have landed
Fuel: When this drops to 0 then you will fall down...
Having translated the game from German to English I decided to
keep the German currency DM !
Now You are asking where you could get new levels?!?
Just try the LEVELEDITOR (not very common for a SpaceTaxiClone, isn`t it?)!
Load it and create your own levels,it is only some sort of difficult
because my Editor is not very comfortable, sorry about that!
First place your walls and platforms where you could crash or land your
Taxi.
Left mousebutton =Paint a block
Right mousebutton =Erase a block
Both mousebuttons=Select-a-block-Screen
After having completed it click on continue.
Now you place some graphics you could fly through, they only make the
level look more beautiful. Remember to put the petrol pump at the
platform you want to use as platform 1 (Remember that platform!!!) so the
player knows wich platform can be used to refuel without checking the
numbers! If you are not happy with your lastly placed object it can be
removed by clicking at UNDO but only the last one is removed!
Ready? Then click at continue.
Read the text that will appear and mark the platforms like it is told.
Remember to mark the one with the petrol pump first!
If a zone is larger than the platform (read the text for more details)
this will not make the game crash but it could happen that when landing
next to a platform and the zone is too large the Computer thinks you
landed onto it.
To continue press `w`.
Now you have to move the mouse pointer slowly upward to the zones so you
hit a pixel in the last row of the block:
! ................ !
! ................ ! Your Zone with `.` being a pixel
! ................ ! != Do not hit a pixel of that row!
-> ................ <- Hit a pixel of this row
Read the appearing text for more details.
If nothing happens then you tried the wrong zone, start from zone 1 !
If two points appear at the bottom of the screen (they store the position
where the passengers will appear) the next zone can be marked until every
zone has been marked.
Then just enter the number of your level and it is saved.
An existing Level will be overwritten so make sure your level does not
exist allready!
There are three pictures storing each Level.
If you have any artprogram you can correct your graphics by hand!
The graphics are stored in the files ending with `a` and `b`.
Do not change the palette, the game will recreate the old one!
And do not change the size or the number of colours of the screen or the
game will most certainly crash!
Please assure the folling points for each level:
-Walls must surround the level so the taxi can not leave the screen.
-Do not draw any walls in the middle of the upper part of the screen where
the taxis are placed (play the game and you will see where this place is).
-When drawing by hand assure that every wall is at least 3 pixels wide.
Otherwise the taxi could have problems detecting the wall so it just
flies through the wall but this normally should not happen!
-Never use more than 10 platforms!!! Maybe the game would run though but
their will be some problems with the samples. But 10 platforms are
more than enough I think.
You can create as much levels as you wish if there is enough space on the
disk/harddisk.
Yes,harddisk:
To install just put the drawer HelloTaxi anywhere on your harddrive
To run the game run HELLOTAXI and not GAME because only the
program HELLOTAXI sets up the required assign automatically.
Well the editor also sets up this assign...
By the way,due to this assign please assure that the following things
are all in the same directory:
The programs HELLOTAXI and GAME and EDITOR
The directory LEVELS that contains ,erm, the levels
Now you are asking why my game needs an Amiga 1200 with fastram to have
it running at a normal speed ?
AMOS is very slow and I can not handle these objects any faster on a
slower AMIGA ,at least at the moment!
This game took me (being a hobbyprogrammer) four months of work, and you
want to support me because it took me so much time, right?!?
I still need a monitor, a printer and a scanner if you understand me ;)
If you like this game and use it often then please send me a small amount
of money:
10 DM or 5 British Pound (Please no coins or checks!) hidden in a postcard
that is put in an envelope so the friendly postman does not hand me an
opened letter...
I have been generous 8) to give you the full completely working version
so please be generous too and send me the money.
It is not much money by the way!!!
Consider this game as Shareware.
If you do not pay me then do not use this game!
You can copy it as long as this readme, the intro , the game and
the leveleditor are kept together and nothing of these
programs is changed. Of course you
are allowed to edit the levels the way you like!
You are not allowed to sell this game for profit!!!!!
Of course when copying it to somebody other You are allowed
to take some money for the disk You are giving away.
But a price of more than 5 DM is much to high for a disk and You are not
allowed to take more.
If You have bought this game from someone for a price of more then
5 DM (not including the postage) then please contact me.
Many times I notice some guys selling certain sharewareprograms inspite
of not being allowed to do so by the authors of those prgrams.
Is it so difficult to read a readme?!?
The program is checked and tested but just for the case that anything
goes wrong read the following two sentences very carefully!!!
THE AUTHOR (ME) IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT MAY OCCURE TO
YOUR HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE WHILE USING THIS GAME. USE IT AT OWN RISK!!!
This is the English version, a German one is also available !
It is really funny, I first made the German one but I think my
English samples sound much better than my German ones.
I don`t know why.
I decided to make this game Shareware because no German Amiga magazine
supported me, every magazine but one just ignored me 8( .
The only one that answered was cancelled soon...
If someone wants to upload this game to Aminet I would agree because
if I had a modem just try to guess what I would have tried!!!
If any magazine wants to put this game onto a coverdisk/cover-CD
then this magazine only is allowed to do so if I get this ISSUE sended
to me FREE.
This also applies for those people who produce Sharewarecollections except
AMINET!
And this does not apply for AMIGA FORMAT because they are at the moment my
only hope to make this game available to the public...
AMIGA FORMAT is allowed to put this game everywhere where
they like it (only the trash would not be nice 8) without sending me an
issue!
For the case you want to contact me for some reason
or to send the money to me here is my address:

If you want to critizise my game then do not just tell it is bad (or good),
tell why it is as bad (or as good) as you think!
If you want to get an answer from me then please put a German stamp worth
1 DM (if available) into your letter because I cannot afford buying
several stamps every week (hey, I am still going to school and I do not
know how much letters I will recieve...)!
Have fun and please support me 8)
